Growing Up In God’s Kingdom
Let the children come
Mark 10:14 ESV
‘But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. ‘
It’s human nature to grow older without “growing up”. Left to its own devices, your flesh tends to cling to childishness. 1 Corinthians 3:3 says For you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?.
Ironically, amongst our children, the flesh seems to entice them to aim for a worldly maturity instead of a childlike humility. Our passage for this week from Mark 10:14 shows us that Jesus’ arms are wide open to children. It also shows us that He blesses a childlike heart regardless of age. The kingdom of God is a place for the humble. It’s a place for those who know they need a Savior, and choose to die to the desires of their flesh. When Jesus said, “Let the children come to me” in this passage, He was telling adults to make a path for kids to know Him, while also making it clear that grown-ups need to come to Him as a child.
As we pray this week, let’s ask God to:
- Make a path for Children to know Him
- Protect our schools
- Guide those who lead children in our community
- Give people a childlike heart regardless of their age
